Geoff Johnson is one of our project managers based out of IMMCO’s headquarters in Atlanta, GA. He was born in the UK, but now he’s spent more than half of his life on the other side of the pond in the US. Geoff took a year off to travel the world back in 1993 and then ended up settling down in the United States, writing software for Cable TV companies in the 90’s.
He spent nearly two decades as a CTO where he wrote and designed a mapping software focused on making GIS mapping as quick and easy as possible for the customer, incorporating customizable aspects and solutions. Looking for a change of scenery, Geoff arrived at IMMCO in 2011, where he started to manage some of our key fiber projects. At IMMCO, whenever there’s a technical issue of any sort, Geoff is the man with the answers.
From being the de facto IT guy for our office in the Metro Atlanta Area to knowing nearly every GIS mapping software in existence, he’s been one of our all-around knowledge experts. He also handles any sort of software and hardware setup, maintenance, customer training and support, and he can walk anyone through any program from anywhere (with a British accent — which somehow makes it better)!
Regarding the future of telecom, Geoff notes how the trend seems to be moving towards fiber. With more online services, teleconferencing, larger uploads, and home schooling, the return path (upstream) is becoming increasingly necessary. Slow upload speeds are becoming more of a concern to the average user, he says, and cable companies are, finally, realizing that people are ditching cable TV for faster services from fiber providers.
Cable companies are starting to increase the return path bandwidth to compete with fiber and 5G options from telco providers. In the end, Geoff says, it’s all leading to faster connectivity options for the consumer, so it’s exciting times in the broadband world!
Geoff has been a Project Manager with IMMCO Inc for nearly a decade, handling key projects across the US. With multiple decades of experience in the cable and telecom industry as a whole, Geoff gives our clients a calm voice at the other end, handling any issues that arise with poise.
